Cybersecurity teams in Germany and South Korea have discovered a new phishing attack that can steal users’ Gmail emails without them having any idea they were compromised!
The attackers use a malicious Chrome Extension, but both Microsoft Edge and Brave also support Chrome extensions and would be vulnerable also.
How Can I Tell If I Am Affected?
1. Open your browser
2. Enter “(chrome|edge|brave)://extensions” in your address bar.
3. Look for an extension simply named “AF” in your list of extensions.
4. If present, delete this extension and review your Gmail account to determine what valuable information could have been stolen.
The best way to prevent this from happening is to never install Chrome extensions, and that includes cute “Free” coupon, weather and other similar add ins that often come bundled with other items you don’t want.
