Is Your Website Mobile Friendly?

ASIS, LLC Website Challenge Series Part 1

One of the first things people check before doing business is the company website.  You only have a few seconds to make a good impression.  Did you know that a survey found that 46% of website visitors leave immediately? It is critical to have a professional look, content that is up-to-date and displays properly on a mobile device.

Mobile Site – With computers and now smart phones and tablets being used to surf the internet, one size doesn’t fit all- your website should automatically adapt and reformat for the smaller sizes when a client is viewing it from a mobile phone or tablet.

In 2010 it was estimated that 7% of all internet traffic was done on a mobile device. By 2014 that figure had grown over 1000%. Companies like Yelp have reported that 55% of all searches are from mobile devices. Websites that are not designed for mobile devices load slowly and are very difficult to view.  A 1 second delay in your website loading will cause more than 7% of your visitors to drop off.  In 1996 companies realized that they needed a website to remain relevant. Today history is repeating itself since, according to Gartner, more people are using mobile phones than PCs to get online.

If your website doesn’t offer mobile menus and reformat to be viewed easier on a small screen then you are driving business away.

The mobile web is no longer a concept – it’s a mainstream reality that will impact any organization that aims to communicate with target audiences online. Mobile phones have already outsold PCs and are becoming the most common Web access device worldwide. The responsibility is now to get a mobile website presence to appeal to the mobile market and generate new business.

The next post in this series will focus on web traffic.
